The Stanley Thomas Johnson Foundation was established in 1969. It is a Swiss Foundation with a charitable purpose. The English name is in memory of its founder, the English industrialist Stanley Thomas Johnson, who lived in Geneva from 1954 until his death in 1967.

The purpose of the Stanley Thomas Johnson Foundation is described in its Statutes as follows: «The improvement of human living conditions in general and the promotion of cultural understanding». This objective is accomplished in research, social welfare, development cooperation and cultural fields.

The Foundation is politically and denominationally independent. The means at its disposal shall benefit as many people as possible and provide direct aid for the disadvantaged. The foundation is active worldwide but with geographical priorities in the field of development cooperation.
