The Stanley Thomas Johnson Foundation welcomes applications in the field of classical music and Jazz, also in combination with other forms of music. The proposal must fulfil some of the following criteria:

We support projects which

  • are innovative, extraordinary or experimental projects
  • offer cultural and artistic exchange
  • link to other activities of the Johnson Foundation (bridge projects):
    • theatre, dance and visual arts
    • assisting individuals affected by conflicts and violence
    • scientific research particularly in health and well-being
    • providing access to vocational training and education
  • are start-up projects
  • include educational activities 
  • integrate people with special needs and improve their access to the arts

Recipients include

  • independent Swiss or British professional music ensembles or groups
  • concert organizers in Switzerland or the UK that attract attention beyond their region
  • Swiss guest appearances at British music festivals
  • British guest appearances at Swiss music festivals
  • concerts within our focus regions (currently Ethiopia, Mali, Nigeria, Pakistan, Somalia, Afghanistan, Angola, Central African Republic, Chad, Myanmar, Yemen), if relevant British or Swiss participation can be demonstrated

Applications must include

  • a completed application form
  • a clear project description, max. 6000 characters, including reasons why the project may be considered extraordinary and why it should be supported by the Foundation (max. 1000 of the available 6000 characters)
  • budget and funding details
  • confirmed performances
The application has to be sent per e-mail. 

We do not award grants to

  • exclusively commercial projects and festivals
  • individual artists
  • anniversary celebrations, prizes, competitions
  • fund research or study grants
  • amateur performances (even if performing with professional participation)
  • requests for funding infrastructure and running costs
  • seasonal programming
  • cd-productions
  • book projects
